It is in the devel snapshot I installed today. It sure wasn't in the
release I had prior to today.

Me too. Like I said in another message. I know that DocBook was not the
greatest on export earlier on so I suspect the filters. Oliver's
experience confirms this in my mind and so the suggestion to file an
issue.  

Perhaps there is more info on the xml project. And, like you, I do not
have sufficient experience with Docbook to go beyond what is already
suggested.  One thing I would do is examine the XSLT filters very
carefully if I needed this feature.
