I did try the 2.0.1 package from linuxpackages and it
said something like "no suitable windowing environment
found".

Anyway, thanks for everyone who got back to me with
advice. I have to say (hanging head in shame!) that I
did not read the installation guide, so its totally my
own fault. As it was, someone told me (off list) how
to use rpm to do it. Rpm comes with Slackware 10.2 and
I tried it before, but it kept whining about
dependencies, and I seemed to be going round in
circles with it. I was told to use the --nodeps flag
with rpm, and just go through the whole list of rpm
files. It worked and I now have OOo 2.0.1 on Linux :-)
