The Feb. issue of Tux magazine includes a tip for speeding up OO.o startup by increasing the Graphics Cache Use for OpenOffice.org setting from it's default of 9 MB to 32 MB. I tried it and it seems to improve the startup time. But, defaults are usually chosen for a reason. Changing a default usually has a cost. What am I really doing when I change this setting? What is the cost of doing so?
