That will get their text into a document with the styles you need,
yes. You will still need to apply your styles to theirs. If you use
the style Heading1 but they used the style Main Head you will need to
apply your style Heading1 to everywhere they used Main Head. If they
used the same names with different definitions, then you probably
don't need to apply your styles.
I'm still running trials on that, Solveig, but it seems like I do need to apply
my styles to get my definitions even if they use the same name.
However, dragging and dropping MOVES the style; it doesn't copy
it.
One must CTRL-click to drag for a copy. Is that standard?
That's the way it does work.
I understand. But is that a Windows standard? An OOO standard?
BTW, on page 80, it says, "Select Format > Styles > Catalogue
to open a dialogue which shows the different Styles for the current
document." I don't think that 2.x has Format > Styles > Catalogue.
You're correct. Here's a way to bring styles from one doc to
another--the PDF mentioned might cover this as well. Go to the
document someone submited to you, where you need to have your styles.
Choose Format > Styles and Formatting. Find the far-right top icon
with the downward facing black triangle, click on it, and choose Load
Styles. In the styles window that appears, mark all the types of
styles you want to bring in from your template, then click From File,
select your template file, and click Open. (If your template file is
already listed in one of the template categories shown, you don't
have to click From File.)
I have a blog on styles here, if you find them helpful.

I would recommend either the copy and paste approach, or the Load
Styles approach, and then apply your styles as necessary to the text
you received from others. Just a personal preference.
HTH--I believe I joined midthread so might not have caught
everything.
You're right at the beginning, thanks.
