I can reproduce this. If I go to

Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - Accessibility

and tick the box labelled

"Use automatic font colour for screen display"

With it ticked I see the colour in Edit mode but Black when I hit
return.

So, hopefully, to fix your problem, untick (detick?) that option.
