Dan Lewis mentioned the Writer's Guide ...
to another user. For whatever reason, I can download,
open and save the PDF version of the various chapters, but I
cannot even download the ODT versions. I've found that to be
the case with other ODT files on the OOo website. Neither
Firefox nor Internet Explorer will download the ODT versions.
Is there a problem, or am I doing something wrong? (Using
Windows XP version 2.0.X of OOo)
There are no ODT versions of any chapters in the OOo 2.0 Writer's
Guide on the OpenOffice.org website, although there are other ODT
files there.
There is a security feature in Windows XP Pro SP2 that causes
Internet Explorer to download ODT files with a ZIP extension from
websites on servers that have not properly implemented the MIME
types for OpenDocument files. OpenOffice.org is one of the
websites affected by this problem (as it has not got those MIME
types set up properly, something I find thoroughly shocking --
but that's another story). However, this security feature does
not affect Firefox, so it should download the files fine, even
from OOo.
Do you mean you are unsuccessful at downloading ODT files from
the OOoAuthors website? It is set up to serve them properly, so
you should not have a problem there with either browser. If you
are having a problem at OOoAuthors, let us know and we'll try to
work out what's going on.
