Barry,

I am a 61 year old so I can partly sympathize. Downloading should be
relatively straight forward but I will try to give you a step-by-step.

     1. Point your browser to http://www.openoffice.org/
     2. CLick on the big greenish section on this page to start the
        process
     3. Click on the Download OpenOffice.org link
     4. You will see three boxes that are dropdown menus and a link
labelled md5sum near the bottom of the screen
     5. Click the md5sum link
     6. Click on the Instruction link
     7. Scroll down to "This is how you verify MD5 Checksums under
        Windows" section and get digestIT
     8. Read the instructions that come with this utility and install it
     9. Read the instructions in this section so you know what to do
        after your download.
    10. Click the Back button on your browser to return to the list of
        sums
    11. Copy the sum for OOo_2.0.2_Win32Intel_install_wJRE.exe which is
        what you should download
    12. CLick the Back button again to take you to the screen where you
        can start the download process.
    13. See the three boxes with the little arrows on the right.
    14. Click on the little arrow on the right of the uppermost box and
select your language. I will guess US English would be
        appropriate
    15. Next click on the little arrow on the middle box. Here you will
select a version that is appropriate for your computer. I
suggest Windows including JRE since you use OE and this is the
one for which you copied the md5sum from the list in step 11
    16. In the next box, select any one of the USA sites from the list
    17. Click the "Continue to Download" button
    18. Download will start and you should be able to select some place
in which it can be stored. e.g. My Downloads
    19. When the download is finished, locate this file and start the
install process by double-clicking the file.
    20. your are done
