I am using open office 2.0.1, on Ubuntu.
Yesterday, I tried to work my way through the process of creating a
Data Base. (Using Chapter 10 of the "Getting Started" guide.)
When I'd finished saving the name, the guide said that I should click
on _Tables_ to highlight it. However, at that point the program
ceased to respond.
I tried it several times, with the same result.
Does anyone know what causes this problem, and even better, what to
do about it?
Just last night I installed OO2.0.2, hoping it would solve the
problem.
It did not.
From the lack of response to my original post, I suspect this is one
of those problems peculiar to J.P. Wagner :-) , and if I can't figure
my own way out of it, I guess I'll have to go to some other Database
program.
Jim,
Are you using OOo as downloaded from http://openoffice.org ?
And what JVM are you using ?
Yes, this is the "legitimate" OpenOffice. Last time I loaded the
"backported" OpenOffice, it came without the Thesaurus, though to give
them credit, they offered a "fix" shortly afterward. As a writer, I
can't wait for someone to "get it right" first, so I use the standard
variety.
As for Java, I am using, so the OO Tools> Options> tells me, Java
version 1.4.2.

I think we have found the problem. You need to go to www.java.com and
download a newer version of Java. Minimum requirement is JRE 1.5 as of OOo
2.0.0.

This also could be the bug I filed which has been put back in my court.
However the latest version of OpenOffice (2.0.2) works better. Certain
parts of my OpenOffice still malfunction - e.g. CrashRep! - but the
wizards are now much more reliable. So download it and see how you go.
