JRE is Java Runtime Environment. Whether you need to install in on Win
2000 PRO depends upon what you want to do with OpenOffice.org (OOo).
OOo's database (Base) and presentation (Impress) require it as do all of
the wizards. While all other parts of OOo will run fine without JRE, these
parts is not work.
