I managed to install something named "X11SDK.pkg", but still cannot install
OO on the iMac Intel. When installed, it's named X11 SDK. Yesterday
morning I asked one of the Apple Tech Support people, with the response "we don't support third party applications" and she had never heard of "X-11."

What does X-11 do? What folder is it in? Does it have a different name when installed? Do I need to launch it before installing OO? Is there a
Readme or FAQ on this OO install process for the iMac Intel?

Really appreciate the help and sorry to ask so many Newbie questions.

Hi Dave,
I'm not too sure how many Mac OSX users are on this list, but you will
probably find that there are more people who can give you more help.

There are a few of us who lurk around here.

Someone else already addressed the X11 installation issue.

X11 is a windowing system that runs atop Apple's OSX Unix API and
works with programs that require the X11. Think of it as another alternative
to Apple's Quartz windowing system. Apple's version has been tweaked to
live more nicely on OSX and provides for cut and paste between X11
applications and Quartz applications among other niceties.

OOo will launch X11 when you start OOo.
