I've been thinking that I might have to do that, rather than installing
the source code package that I get via gentoo. On the other hand, if
it's a problem of OO not recognizing my Java installation, I'm not sure
what to do.

We haven't figured out how to fix this yet (haven't tried very hard) so
if you find a way to do it, please post it.
