U3 is a USB-key standard that allows for running programs off the USB key. I don't know if there is a U3 version of OpenOffice.org. However, there is a version called Portable OpenOffice.org, at a site called (I think) PortableApps.com. I haven't tested it yet myself, but I believe this version is meant to run on *any* USB key with enough storage space, not just a U3-enabled one.

If I got anything wrong here, feel free to correct me; I'm not 100% positive about my knowledge in this area.

Windows only so far. However, try
http://documentation.openoffice.org/HOW_TO/various_topics/USB_key.pdf
as a resource.

Yes, sorry, forgot to add that (about Windows). I don't know Linux at all, but I was pretty sure both U3 and Portable OpenOffice.org were for Windows only. My point was that if you have Windows, any sufficiently large USB key can run the PortableApps.com version. Presumably a U3-enabled USB key could also run the PortableApps.com version, but I don't know enough about U3 to be sure about that.

And, of course, I always forget about that PDF about USB keys. Sorry.
