May I suggest you do most of this research on your own. However, I can
give you one part of what you need: total cost of software. It is 0 euros,
or if you please 0 pounds. Furthermore, all the documentation listed at
http://documentation.openoffice.org is also free unless stated otherwise.
May I also suggest you download a copy of OpenOffice.org from its web
site to experiment with. Since the it is a free download, downloading it
will cost you nothing unless you have to pay for the time to download it
to your Internet Service Provider.
I would also suggest you take the time to read the license that come
with the download. It will verify what I have already written. It will
also make it plain that you can burn a copy of the program on a CD and put
it on as many computers as you desire. This could include all 500
computers at JKCC. You can also burn extra CD's and give them to the
others students to be installed on their own computers if they have one.
You should be able to search the OOo web site to see what the hardware
requirements are and then calculate what if any additional hardware is
needed. (Since I have had very few if any problems running OOo 2.0.2
(latest version) on a laptop with 375 MHz CPU & 160 MB RAM, I doubt that
the hardware cost will be very much.
And, you are welcome. Enjoy your research.
Dan
