Thank you, but you're too late. I just uninstalled/reinstalled. And it works great. I now see that I have 12 documents in Writer.

There should be a very easy way, (and you don't need to uninstall OOo):

Open the Windows-Explorer, mark a file (you should see the blue bar for
highlighting the selected file), make a right click on this file, choose
"Open with" and check the box "Open every file with this program",
choose your word program and that's it. You can do the same for
Excel/Calc and PowerPoint/Impress files.
