Dear Victor,

If you're using Windows, you can download a utility for typing most
Latin-alphabet languages (including many not catered for by the
US-International layout) from my personal webpage:
http://www.personal.leeds.ac.uk/~ecl6tam .

Naturally, the utility is freeware.

That link is to a layout called UK Enhanced, which handles accented and
other special characters by adding dead-keys to the standard UK layout,
so you can type, for example, English, French, Polish, Lithuanian, Old
Icelandic and Turkish all with the same layout.

The dead-key method is much easier and quicker that messing about with
Alt numbers, Character Map or Insert ... Symbol, or having to switch
national keyboards and seeing your top line turn to AZERTY, so what is
painted on the keys is not what they type.

My layout is made with MSKLC, which is what MS use to make their own
layouts, so mine needs no third-party software to run: once installed,
it simply becomes part of Windows, just like any other keyboard mapping.

I'm working on an equivalent layout for the US keyboard, but can't test
it in real-world use. If anyone is interested, please contact me
(off-list?).

If anyone is interested, I've also got an equivalent layout for Cyrillic
languages, and another for IPA.
