If you are using the RHEL version, you would be better off asking RH.
The commandline you give does not resemble anything that is produced by
installing the official release from www.openoffice.org. For that the
property is soffice -writer %U where soffice is available from /usr/bin.

I use FC4 and had to remove the RH release and replace it.
