Sorry, but your claim is not true, because OOo (OpenOffice.org) does not
and cannot stop you working with Excel. What happened was that during
the OOo install process you ticked the boxes that told your Windows
operating system to open your MS Excel files with OOo Calc. It's known
as Windows file associations. Unfortunately, Windows (unlike other
operating systems) lacks the ability to associate one file type with
more than one program.

You do not need to uninstall OOo, just follow the instructions given
here: http://user-faq.openoffice.org/faq/ar01s04.html#FILE-ASSOCIATIONS
