I hope I'm asking this question in the right forum.
How do I replace the template in a Impress presentation?
I have two presentations, and old one is PowerPoint and
the new one is Star Office 8. The format of the presentations
are similar. How do I make the old one look like the new one?
I can import the old PPT file into SO8 and it mostly looks
like it did in PowerPoint. I would have thought that I could have
replaced the slides in the "Slide Master" with the corresponding
Master slides from the new presentation. That definitely
doesn't work and cut and paste operations pop up a dialog
that says "This function can not be run with the selected objects".
Huh? So I definitely don't know what I'm doing. Help!
Have you tried saving the pp file as an OOo template? I think that this
might be a good way to get what you want so you could copy/paste from
the SO to the new presentation that is based on the new template.
Copy and pasting from original presentation - saved as a template - doesn't
seem to make any difference, when the slides land on the new presentation
they carry all of the original formatting information with them. If I
subsequently
change the master page for each slide element then things get closer to
correct,
however the results still require quite a bit of manual fixup.
Frankly, it takes about
the same amount of time to just recreate each slide by hand. Which
seems crazy,
since most of the content is just bullet/sub-bullet text, You'd think
there'd be some
way to say: throw out everything related to formatting before pasting
this slide,
just retain the bullet/sub-bullet structure.
BTW, doesn't Sun have its own SO support?
We probably do. Thanks for your help.
