I'm not certain this is the case, though - the software we use creates a
lower-case ".xls" file...
Any further ideas?

All that is on the third sheet is numbers - with column headders - no
formulae carried over from other sheets, or suchlike.
I've since found that if I open the file in excel - no need to save or
anything - just *open* it... it then shows all the data - even the third
sheet - in Calc :oS
Weird, but I hope someone may be able to help :o>
