A "merge and center" title looks exactly the same as a "center across selection" title, regardless of the widths of the columns involved. It's just two ways of doing the same thing, visually. > Second, it changes the way the spreadsheet works. Currently I > can tab or right arrow from column A to B. A title typed into A1 but centered across A1 thru J1 will still allow you to tab or right arrow thru each cell B1, C1, D1, etc. A title typed into A1 but merged, then centered thru J1 will have your title in A1 and the next cell to the right will be K1; cells B1 thru J1 no longer exist. This could cause keyboard navigation from A1 to be awkward if you hit right arrow and expect to be in B1 but instead you will be all the way over in K1; possibly your whole view of the spreadsheet will abruptly shift to the right (if K1 was offscreen or near the edge of the window). Of course this is solved by using the down arrow first to go to A2 (or further down) then to the right. > The creator of the spreadsheet > will not be happy and start asking "Why don't you just use Excel > instead?", and that's not good PR for OOo. I really don't see this as that big an issue; it's possible the creator won't even notice the change, at least at first. Not in a row 1 title. Where merged cells become a problem is when you add columns later. Then you have to go back and unmerge cells (if only temporarily) and this can be a *huge* pain. I would like to see OOo support center across selection. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
