Please only email the list. This is a mailing list - the list is to get all replies.

It is also bad etiquette on this list to reply to the original poster, unless they are not subscribed, (which you are not), or unless you ask for permission.

Thanks,

I think I have it figured out. First, Navigator does NOT allow you to do as
stated below. If you want to use openoffice outlining, you do need to use
navigator, but you need a few macros as well. Create one for when positioned
on an outline heading, you can make the text hidden text. This will "hide"
the interior.

Should work in principle. Similarly, you'll need a macro to make it visible
again. This has the same visual effect as outline collapsing.

Good luck

Donald:

I don't know. Please reply only to the list. There are lots of other volunteers who can help you.

I see this is a common complaint, yet on the TODO list, I cannot even

The MAIN reason I prefer to continue to use MS WORD over Openoffice is
because Outlining in Openoffice sucks in comparison to Word's features.
Openoffice Writer needs AT LEAST the following features before it can
EVER
be considered a serious writing tool for professional specifications.

1. Must be able to collapse and expand each outline section (using
+/-
preferably like in Word).
2. Must be able to collapse and expand multiple sections by
specifying
the level of collapse/expand.
3. Must be able to number based on Outlining like MS WORD.

That's it. If Openoffice WRITE can do these 3 items, it then becomes a
serious contender. I mean it..thats ALL it needs, but on a more serious
scale, it is UNUSABLE UNTIL these simple 3 features are implemented.

I write mostly specifications from requirements through design and
manuals
along with prose (I have written a novel) and in ALL of these, outlining
is
essential for document structure. Without the features above, Openoffice
remains a toy.

I really hope I see these features become more important, as I cannot
take
you guys seriously until those 3 items are implemented.

Thanks

Hello,
As you are not subscribed, you may not have seen:

I used to make large use of the outline view too, but I found that the
navigator (F5) is more than sufficient for what I needed to do
(promote/demote sections, move sections, display only up to a certain
depth
and so on...).
Actually, I found the navigator even better than the outline view. Did you
give it a try?

Cheers,

Michele
