Hello:

I'm performing a mail merge. Some of the fields in the source database
are empty.

I am using a Hidden Paragraph field to omit them when the neighbouring
field is empty.

Here is what I have in the Condition box:

NOT Canada.cust.27.04.2006.Sheet1.business_name

In spite of this, the merged document shows a blank line wherever a
blank field appears.

I've no idea if the 'NOT' syntax should work, but this does:

![Canada.cust.27.04.2006.Sheet1.business_name]

and make sure that you have not rendered hidden paragraphs visible in
the View menu.

Okay - I'm now doing this merge with another document. Again, I have a
set of address fields, some of which are blank.

When showing the field names, this is what I see:

recruiters.10.05.2006.Sheet1.last_nameHiddenParagraph

If I right-click on the HiddenParagraph field and look at the Field
properties, I see a field type of "HiddenParagraph", and in the
Condition field, this text:

![recruiters.10.05.2006.Sheet1.last_name]

I have the "Hidden Paragraphs" option *unchecked* in the View menu. Yet,
when I do the Mail Merge from the Tools menu, the resulting output has
blank lines for all records where the last_name field is blank. The
desired effect is that the paragraph should not even be there if the
field is blank.

I'm following instructions. What's wrong here?

Thanks,

-Stephen-

When I responded I was using Windows XP, but I've now got Fedora Core 5 up and stumbling. Once I get past the fact that all my Windows partitions are NTFS, I'll set up an exchange partition and check it out.
