Actually I did try several times. When I select (say) one arrow and hold the
CTRL or ALT or SHIFT key down and then select another box/arrow then the
previous one gets deselected. In other words, it does not allow multiple
selects when I try to group them to copy.

I'm not sure this will work, but have you tried to copy the drawing in
Writer and paste it in Draw?
