Open Office.org is available for the intel macs -- text edit is just that, a text editor -- it was never intended to be a word processor -- Take a look in your Applications Folder, then in the iwork folder -- there is a word processor in there called Pages -- if you enjoy the whole Apple OSX interface, you will like Pages, if not it will drive you nuts!

Good luck

The system requirements for OpenOffice 2.0 on Mac OS X include

However, my just-acquired iMac 17 has

I have a sneaking suspicion this means I can't (yet) get open office. Am I (I hope) wrong? If I'm right, any idea how long until a version good for me will be available?

The TextEdit furnished with the Mac, at least on my initial trial, seems to me to be a dreadful product. I'd much prefer to be using Writer.
