I don't quite see why you need a macro to provide subscripting. By
default the key combination Ctrl+Shift+B toggles subscripting off and
on, as indicated in the Help file under "Subscript text".
I tried this in OOo2.0.2 on Linux and the subscript hotkey Ctrl+Shift+B
appears to be broken. When I type C+S+B I get an underscored letter B
and when I press the next character it replaces the underscored B and
the text is not subscripted. The superscript hotkey Ctrl+Shift+P works.
Fortunately, the buttons are easy to add to the toolbar.
You can also find the subscript function under Tools -> Customize which
allows you to add it as an icon to a toolbar, add it to a menu, or
assign it to other keystrokes if you don't like Ctrl+Shift+B.
You can use the Formatting toolbar drop menu (the little down arrow at
the far right of the toolbar) and select Visible Buttons. Then select
the Superscript and Subscript buttons from there. I think this is an OOo
2 feature - not sure.
