And that I understand. However I am trying to establish if it is actually a
bug in OOo (which I suspect) or something else. And if there is a workaround.

The workaround I already mentioned.

If this saving of files not edited by the user is happening then I think that
it is probably happening for a ll users of OOo and therefore making the
"File" -> "Save" operation longer than it needs to be.


I think there may be a bit of a mix-up.
The removal, and the subsequent and immediate re-creation, of these
files (~/.openoffice.org2/user/basic/{script.xlc,dialog.xlc}) occure
only when exiting OOo, and only if files were edited and saved in that
session of OOo.

I imagine such a thing would be useful if OOo wanted to keep a history
of changed files or something of that sort. In that case, it wouldn't
be a bug. At most, it would be a bug only for those who wish to have
'~/.openoffice.org2' read-only.
