I'm sure this is elementary, but I can't figure out how to advance from

Not sure what you mean so a bit more explanation may be needed.
Nonetheless, I think that the section in the User Guide entitled
"Designing Labels and Business Cards" will help you. See
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/OOo2.x/user_guide2_draft.pdf
The doc project hosts other manuals and HOW-TOs that may also prove
useful. Have a look.
I now have read the pertinent part. Beats me why I couldn't find the
answer provided by Matt Needles in the help system.
However, I find it strange that moving the cursor from somewhere on one
label to the start of the next requires a mouse action and doesn't have
an equivalent keyboard action.at I normally want to do, however, can be
solved by using the mouse.
What I frequently do is create a single address label, using a sheet
that has had some removed. So I select the frame of the label I want to
print, and do the entry there. As I said, I now know that I can do it
with the mouse. Using Microsoft Word what I would do is a control-enter
to move from one to the other - a few times to get the cursor where I
want it to be.
I'll keep in mind the user guide when I need to do a more complex job.
