I have not loaded MS Office since upgrading my PC and so I am using
Openoffice for all my word processing, but this means that I now do not
have a spell checker feature when I send emails using MS Outlook?
Is there a workaround where I can use Openoffice's spellchecker for my
outgoing email messages?

The obvious workaround would be to write your email in OpenOffice.org
Writer, then Ctrl+a Ctrl+c (or Ctrl+x), open your email client, compose,
Ctrl+v. Somewhat more work, however.
