I have recently upgraded to Windows XP Home Edition from Windows '98.

The Software Package included OpenOffice v.2.0, instead of Microsoft Word and
Microsoft Excel.

I work in Retail and regularly use mailmerge to produce labels etcetera.

I tend to use Excel as a separate database, as this allows me to make single
changes, move cells around to add new lines and to sort the information.

This database is then merged into a Word Document, which I have already set up
and formatted.

However, since getting OpenOffice, I do not seem to be able to merge the same
information into the format I require, and I am having to use OOCalc to produce
the labels, where one cell = one label.

This makes changes extremely time consuming, as each cell has to be formatted
individually and cut and pasted around the sheet to accommodate the new lines.

Is there an easier way to do this?

I have added examples of the Excel Data, the Word Pre-Merge and the Final
Merged Document for clarification.

Any help would be very gratefully appreciated, but please bear in mind that I
am self-taught and not overly computer literate.

Thank You.

Darrell:

I think what you are looking for in OpenOffice.org is what Word calls a catalog. This is slightly harder in OOo, but still possible.

I suggest you go through the mail merge chapters in the OOo 2.0 users guide: http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/index.html

Then, if you still have questions, let us know what you tried and what didn't work the way you wanted.
