     When you save a file for the first time, look at the bottom middle of 
the Save As window. It has a checkbox labeled: Automatic file name 
extension. It needs to be checked.
     Open one of the files that has this problem and then do a Save As 
(File > Save As). You should see that this checkbox does not have an "x" 
in it. Click the box to enter the "x". Do this for the other files with 
this same problem.
