If you close it the same way you close other documents, yes.

If and only if there is only one document, there is a special X that closes only that document, while the regular X closes the document and the program.

Otherwise, there is only the regular X, and it closes only the document.

Yes, it's weird, although it makes a kind of sense if you think about it for a while.
