FYI:

There's been a lot of activity on this thread, and I just wanted everyone who's interested to know that there is an Issue for it: 5991. It has 25 votes so far, but the more the merrier, eh?

As far as I can tell, only *registered* users can vote (or submit their own issues). Go to http://www.openoffice.org/, click the "My Pages" link, click "Register for an account". Basically, just follow the instructions, because I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Try this.

In a word document, type the following sentence exactly as it
appears.

overline {This sentence is overlined.}

Select the whole sentence. Select Insert / Object / Formula
from the menu.

You should have the sentence between the curly braces
overlined.
