I'm having the same problem. When I try to install the X11 under

(perhaps???). Spotlight finds X11 (or its installer, but the box icon
is open) on my hard drive, but without specifying exactly *where* it
is, so that I can find it and see what I can do with it.

Does the method outlined in for this problem in
http://documentation.openoffice.org/setup_guide2/2.x/en/ SETUP_GUIDE.pdf
not work for you?

Thank you - the key was in Appendix 1, on page 42. For some reason I only had a shorter version of the setup guide.

However, I couldn't open the "/Library/Receipts" directory because there was no "Receipts" folder in my "Library" folder (in Mac speak). In fact, there still isn't. (step 1)

However, I had already dragged X11 to the trash (step 2) from the spotlight window, where I could find it -- I just hadn't dared to empty the trash without knowing more about what I was doing.

So I used "secure empty trash" (step 3 says to empty the trash -- I always choose the secure option), and

was then able to install X11 from the Tiger CD (step 4).

And now I can run OpenOffice! Thank you.
