Hi Rick,
None of your files have changed format. When you installed
openoffice.org, you checked the boxes that indicated that you wanted OOo
to be the default program to open Microsoft Office files. The only thing
you need to change is the association for those files. This is a fairly
simple change and you will find instructions on how to make this change
if you open OOo help and search for 'file association'.
To share files with your assistant, you will have to save in OOo format.
To share files with anyone using Word, you will have to save those files
is Microsoft word format as described below.
