what happens is that, when i already have, say a spreadsheet open and then
activate another one, the file name appears in a small bar which flashes a
couple of times in the startbar at the bottom edge of the screen and only
expands to a full window if i click on that small bar.  the same applies to a
test/word document.  i couldn't find anything in tools >> options.

yes, i had a look at customizing the keyboard but i could find no "fill down" or
"fill up" function etc. to which i could apply a shortcut key.

i had a look at the link and downloaded a number of .pdf user guides but i've
not had a chance to read them yet.  when i do, i might find the answers to all
three of the above points.  hope so.

i have no real problem with ms word or excel etc. but wanted to move away from
microsoft.  i like openoffice and am glad i made the move.  my next step is to
attempt to move from windows to linux at some point in the near future.
