But they can be tricky. The key to getting the master document to look the way you want it to look (and really the key to OpenOffice in general, or at least to Writer) is really the proper use of templates. If you use one template for all of the subdocuments, then create the master document using that same template, your life will be much easier. If you use different templates, you'll have to go through the master document (or better, the template used in the master document) and reformat everything to get it looking the way it did in the subdocuments. Even if you use the same template for all of the documents and the master document, if a subdocument uses any special formatting that's not in the template, it'll most likely be lost in the master document. So, rather than applying that rogue format to that one paragraph you want to look a little different, it's better to create a new style in the template and use that, if you know you'll use that document in a master document. As for the missing list of styles of appearing as the first couple lines of the document, that's new to me. I've never heard of that.
