I apologize for having pasted my answer twice into this email by mistake.

Randy,

I'm also using Mac OS X and have the same problem

I did find a way to set the default printer for a specific document permanently, rather than each time I print it out:

select File -> print.
Click on “Help”
search for “default printer” - this comes up:

“Printer Setup
Select the default printer for the current document.
To access this command...
Choose File - Printer Settings

[I found that completing this step, changing the default printer to my printer in this dialog box, even though I then clicked "cancel," since I did not want to print at that point, could not be omitted]

Choose File - Templates - Organize - commands (button)- Printer Settings”

then I selected the document I wanted to set the default printer for from the list,
then selected my printer from the drop-down menu,
then clicked on “OK” and closed the window.

Then, when I selected File -> print, my printer appeared.

When I closed and re-opened the document,
then chose File -> print, the printer I had selected as default for the document still came up.

When I quit and re-started OOo, then re-opened the document,
chose File -> print, the printer I had selected as default still came up.

However, even if I made no other changes to the document, if I discarded rather than saving changes when closing the document, then the old “default printer” rather than my printer would show up when I chose “File -> print.”

And, as stated at the beginning of the “Help” instructions, this changes the default printer for this one document only, not for any select File -> print.

If anyone knows a way to change the default printer for all documents, I would love to know about it.

If anyone knows a way to change the default printer to the one I own for printing all documents, I would love to know about it.

Hello,

I was wondering how I could set the default printer for all documents
in OO. The generic printer does not allow me to set some of the
properties I need to set (default tray) for the printer I want to use.
I'm using Mac OS X and have set the desired printer as default in the
OS.

Thanks for the info!

Cheers,

Randy
