I'm not a Mac-User, so I could be wrong, but I remember, that different people said, that you should install the X11 version, that is shipped with your OS on the install CD. The version, that you can download from the apple website is for older versions of MacOS. So, my suggestion is, that you have a look at your install CD and that you choose this version.
