I've noticed this occasionally with big Word documents... although usually ones with pictures. Do you have many styles in the document? Tables? How quickly does Writer open the document once you've saved it as an odt?

Hello.
when I open a document with the extension .doc with writer 2.09 MB (200 pages only text)
show me the message in the status bar "importing the document.........." and
blue bar filling........................
takes 5 minutes to open..... is that normal??? or it`s something bad with the
document??

You failed to state two things:
1. What is the Operating System you are using?
2. What is the speed and type of processor in your system?

Say you are using a very slow IBM PC based system running Windows NT,
and using a marginal amount of memory, it can take a very long time to
open a lengthy document. However, if you are using a very fast IBM PC
system with a large amount of memory, this document can be opened very
quickly (say less than five seconds.)
