Dave, There is no real need to clutter up your diskspace with word-files that you only create so you can send them to other people.
In OOo 2.0.3 select File/Send/Email as Microsoft Word. The document will now be sent as an attachement without creating a document. The actual menu options may differ from the ones I use, because I use the Dutch version an i'm just guessing the Englisch version.
