Since you most likely ruined the installation by doing the above
(you can't really expect any Windows program to work even if it is on
a different drive if you completely reinstalled your system),

That's not what I meant, sorry for not expressing myself too well in
English.
After I reinstalled everything (including OpenOffice.org 1.1.5) on a
completely empty HDD (I used KillDisk first to fill the HDD with zeros, then
FDisk and then I installed Windows, which installation program formatted the
HDD for me, then I installed all drivers needed and then most of the
software I need, such as OpenOffice.org 1.1.5), I am trying to make
OpenOffice.org 1.1.5 Writer to remember my dictionary settings. This fails
every time.
Every time I run OpenOffice.org 1.1.5 Writer (and possibly Calc as well, I
didn't try that yet), the spell checker is set to OFF.
At Tools – Options – Language – Linguistics, the following are set:
1. OpenOffice.org MySpell SpellChecker (unchecked)
2. ALTLinux LibHnj Hyphenator (unchecked)
3. OpenOffice.org Thesaurus (unchecked)

4. standard [All] (checked)
5. Egen [All] (unchecked)
6. soffice [All] (unchecked)
7. sun [All] (unchecked)
8. IgnoreAllList [All] (checked)

The selected language is Swedish.
5. "Egen" is my own dictionary, created using the spell checker dialog to be
found at Tools
Now I want to check 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 and uncheck 4, so I do so. When that's
done, I once again click Tools – Options – Language – Linguistics. Now 1 and
2 are still unchecked, so obviously it has a very short memory OR I missed
something (and what that is, is what all this actually is about, I guess).

After closing, saving the document and starting up OpenOffice.org
1.1.5Writer once again, the settings I did for 5, 6, 7 and 4 are also
"forgotten".

So I am not saying that OpenOffice.org 1.1.5 doesn't remember my settings
before I reinstalled everything. I am just saying that it doesn't remember
the settings I did a few seconds ago.

I suggest
you remove OOo 1.1.5 as well and completely, and start from scratch by
downloading a current version like OOo 2.0.3.

I did that a while ago, but OpenOffice.org 2.0 was so terribly slow on my PC
(made in 1998) and it was totally unusable. I installed OpenOffice.org
2.0on my girlfriend's laptop however, but her laptop is usually
occupied by her
(surprise, surprise) so I need to use my own PC most of the time. Besides
OpenOffice.org 2.0 is terribly slow on her laptop too, but not totally
unusable. So if I could, if it just wasn't so heavy, I would just install
OpenOffice.org 2.0, just as you suggested. I think the OpenOffice.org
2.0Base would be very useful for me in many cases (not in this case
however).
So until I got myself a new, extremely fast PC, I will be stuck with
OpenOffice.org 1.1.5, so I guess I have to make the best out of it.

Many things have improved meanwhile so I won't stick with the old
version.

Many things are greatly improved in OpenOffice.org 2.0, however speed is
not...

Of course if you want to you can just reinstall the old version
as well.

I guess that "want" is the wrong word in my case. "Have to" seems to
be more appropriate, sorry. =)

To have a completely new setup you may also like to get rid of the
OpenOffice specific application-data in your "documents and settings"
directory before reinstalling the new version.

Thanks for replying!

Regards

Johnny
