This is because microsoft windows has OpenOffice.org set as the default program for opening .doc files. To remedy this: 1 Find a word document on your computer in Windows Explorer 2 Right click on it (Windows98 or WindowsME hold shift, then right click) 3 Select "Open With..." from the list 4 Choose Microsoft Word from the list that pops up 5 Tick the little box at the bottom that says something like "Always use this program to open this type of file" 6 Click OK You will no longer have this problem. By the way; OpenOffice.org 1.0 is really old and obsolete (nearly as old as Word 2000). The new Version 2 is much slicker and far more familiar for Word users.
