[users] How can I open text documents created in oo 1. but now using oo 2./

Hi, I hope you can help me out here, I took opportunity to upgrade
to OO 2. expecting my OO 1 text docs to still be accessible. I 
noted that uninstalling OO1 was a necessity & did so. Now when I 
click on any Open Office icon, I get a <Filter Selection> dialog but 
cannot find any selection that allows me to open anything.
 
What am I missing here? Thanks in anticipation of your assistance.
