Not only that, but (unlike MacAfee) AVG, Avast, Antivir, Clamav, etc., have not been deliberately crippled with code designed to ignore certain viruses and trojans. I still remember when MacAfee announced publicly that they had rewritten their program to ignore the FBI's keylogger programs, back when Carnivore was in the news. I stopped using their product that day, and have never gone back. All a black hat needs to do to get past MacAfee's software is write their code to look like the FBI's code, and MacAfee will ignore it. Open source products like Clamav don't do that, and won't, because any independent programmer can look at the source code and make sure that it's a good program, without any such gaping holes in it. Just call it another victory for FOSS. -- When you let people do what they want, you get Woodstock.
