If that attachment name is correct, you appear to be simply renaming 
the file and it's still saved as an "ODS" file.  It opens fine here 
in OpenOffice, as an ODS file.  When you save the file, make sure the 
file type is XLS.  This is done with the "Filter" selection, below 
the file name.

    The "Filter" selection is labeled "File type" and this must be
Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP (.xls) if someone with MS Excel is to be 
able to open it.
