I have tried many combinations from single cell, a number of
cells in a row, a number of cells in a column, to a block of
cells - always the same results. The "default settings" in the
selection box are always the one I want - its just an extra
step.

I don't remember any problem in OO.o Calc ver. 1.0.5. In version
2.0 was definitely correct. I thought it was a setting I
couldn't find. I downloaded and installed OO.o 2.0.2.1 from
Mandriva's RPM library. In another couple months I will be
upgrading my OS.
