If you uses Mac OS X 10.4.x you should install the X11 of your
installation disk of 10.4

I assume, you downloaded the X11 from apple.com. This works *only*
for Mac OS X 10.3.x
If this will not answer your question, please have a look at the wiki

If this will not work then, please tell us the Version of your
computer/software combination
