[users] pre use question

I am considering purchasing a Toshiba laptop that comes with Open Office. Since I am not familiar with this office product, I am reading the info on your website and conclude the following:   ·         This software performs the same functions as Microsoft Office suite ·         If I choose to use this software instead of MS, I can still use all of the documents on my computer that are in Word format ·         I do not need to get any other office software   Please let me know if I am correct. Also any other information you can point me to.   Thank you Linda
