I have used most versions of OpenOffice.org since 1.0.3 and this could not be done until OpenOffice.org 2.0. So if you could do this in the past, it must either have been when using another office suite (MS Office?) or maybe that feature was available in earlier versions than OpenOffice.org 1.0.3. I use OpenOffice.org 1.1.5 Calc a lot and this just can't be done.
