[users] linux version download won't install

I have tried and tried to get the latest version of Open Office 
installed. It just doesn't work, and I can't find any installation 
instructions.

why is it so difficult when a Microsoft version installs with a simple 
click on the download file?

where, if anywhere, are easy to follow instructions that work?
